The Best Countries for Black Men to Relocate to & Why

Moving to another country has so many advantages, including building up your network, getting a fresh start, and learning a new language.

For black men looking to relocate abroad, there are many factors that go into play before leaving. You have to keep in mind race relations, stereotypes, and how you might be treated based on the color of your skin. Some countries are better than others.

Other factors to consider are access to healthcare, employment opportunities, as well as homeownership among people of color.

With that being said, here are a few of the best countries for black men to live in (no specific order ) and why.


Location, location, location, the Dominican Republic is only two hours away from the southern borders of Florida. There is a large expat community of brothers mainly on the North coast. You can connect with these brothers in cities like Sosua and Puerto Plata. The price of living in comparison to the United States is very reasonable. As far as business opportunites the D.R has an abundance. So if you want to open up a small restaurant on the beach or a boutique hotel, the D.R could be the place for you.

The cost of living is why Colombia is one of the best places for black men to relocate. On average, you can rent a nice apartment in Medellin for 300.00 a month. Another advantage: the culture. The Colombian people are known to be extremely friendly and will make you feel right at home.  In addition, the country has the most beautiful women in the world.

Most brothers living in Colombia are retired, ex-military or work in I.T. amongst other, online jobs.

Copacabana Beach

Some say Brazil is heaven on earth for Black men. Well let me tell you, it might just come close. The woman are stunningly beautiful and they love Black American men. Like most of South America the price of living is very low. You can rent a apartment near the beach for well under 800.00 a month. I personally know many brothers living all over Brazil and they love it. Brazil is one of those countries where its best to work online or be retired. While there are some opportunities for employment keep in mind you might have to be fluent in Portuguese.

By know i’m sure you’ve heard that Ghana has attracted visitors from all over the world with its “Year of Return” campaign, an initiative that began in 2019 to mark 400 years since the first documented slave ship from Africa landed in Virginia. 

There are many economic opportunities in Ghana for African Americans. In Ghana not only do you get access to investing in real estate. You can also can get employment or open up a business. The price of living is reasonable but not as cheap as one may think near the major cities. The major advantage is it’s a English speaking country with a large expat community. Also keep in mind that the women of Ghana are some of the most beautiful in the world. So dating isn’t a problem.

  1. There’s also the opportunities for these really dope moments of clarity that you just can’t get while being surrounded by your normal atmosphere. Some of my best moments of reflection and healing (because yes, we as black men need space to heal from the litany of attacks upon our being) came from being away from all of the static of my day-to-day. You’d be surprised by how clear the mind becomes when it’s away from home.
